How to install the CSS Dock Menu - This CSS dock menu kindly coded by N Design Studio

This is a detailed step by step tut – for the non tech savvy -install the CSS Dock Menu – so we can all have this dock .

thanks to ndesign studio the CSS Dock Menu brings some mac flavor to our web designs. The css is easy enough to install just there is no documentation that goes in to detail and I’ve seen alot of people asking around even willing to pay for others to install this simple CSS menu. Hopefully this will be alot of help to many of you .

So to start with download the files that we need . This contains everything we need to make this CSS menu work on our site.

The next step is to unzip these files to a folder – this is so that the FTP works – if you’ve ever wondered why the files won’t transfer from a zip its because you have to unzip them before they transfer. The FTP is very easy – I think alot of people find this part puts them off – The FTP is simply a file structure just like on your machine – except its on your server, out in whichever hosts country you have it – mines in Texas – which is just another computer just like your own personal computer but I digress -

Next if you havent done so already get Filezilla its free and does FTP-ing very nicely – the setup is easy enough; you just want put in your blogs url and cpanel password set to normal login and port 21 – search you tube for a tut there are plenty around.

So now – we are ready to move the files to the website – After logging onto your server – find public html this is the main directory for your server including all add on domains – if you dont see your domain as a folder thats because your main url directory is the public HTML folder itself – I use a sub domain -trades-design.inspireify.com/ so find the sub folder / directory called trades-design – or whatever the add on or sub domain is called. The folder and files contain the js plugin and js itself – with the html already there.

Simply drag all the files into that directory – the main one with wp-config.php in it . Thats it – Now simply put “/css-dock.html ” behind the sub/ add on domain in your browser like this http://trades-design.inspireify.com/css-dock.html and thats it – if this doesn’t work try right clicking and copying the file css-dock.htlm URL and paste into your browser use your ftp login [cpanel] to view it – if you put the files on the directory correctly the only thing it can be is the way you typed the url – which point to the css dock menu - it should be like this your domain ie : http://digitalartempire.com/ and after the place where the dock is on your server – from your ftp like this image:

to alter the links where the menu buttons link to and images for the dock and also the name of the hover text simply download the html file css-dock.html and edit the code with notepad – or press ctrl U when at your CSS dock url ie for me its – http://trades-design.inspireify.com/css-dock.html to get to the source code and copy and paste it to a notepad after editing save it as css-dock.html this is optional it still works as an example

to edit the links – find this code – after <!–top dock –> <div id=”dock”> for the top menu and <!–bottom dock –> for the lower menu

for the link insert where it links to here # between the quotations -”#”

for the image upload the image to the images folder ( for css dock in your main directory not for your theme) change the name of the image you upload to its respective place – or alter the img source name ie ”images/home.png”

For the hover text change the words between the <span> </span> tags – the alt tags only changed the alt text

Find and edit the red

Using video content on your website has become the latest fashion accessory in web design. Of course video is more than that really, it’s a great way of getting your message across whether it’s a product demonstration, a news item, a review, sales pitch or anything else you can think of. Video also has benefits for search and traffic generation if used correctly.

The technology you need for online video keeps getting better, easier to use and more accessible. With a small camcorder and a home editing programme you can easily create a short video to put on Youtube and then embed on your webpage. Is that the best thing to do? Well that depends on your Video Strategy.

Like any piece of marketing or business communication, you need an effective strategy for your video to help ensure that you achieve what you need to from it. These are just some of the questions you should be asking yourself:

Should we make our own video or hire a production company

Shall we put the video on Youtube

Will our video show up in search engines

How can we get people to watch our
video

Will our video go viral

How much should we spend on our video

Can we use that song by the Rolling Stones as the soundtrack, it fits the idea perfectly

How do we put the video on our website

The answers to these kind of questions depend on another, more basic set of questions. What is the purpose of your video? Who do you want to watch your video? What do you want them to understand from it? If you want your video to be a bit of fun for friends or colleagues then something you make yourself and upload to Youtube will be perfect. Your friends will excuse any dimly lit scenes, camera shake or the odd mistake because the video is about them, people they know or something you all share in common.

But if you are aiming to use this video for serious purposes, say for customer information, product demonstration, business news or charity fund raising, you cannot afford to risk your corporate image by having a poorly made video. So you have two choices really: either hire a video production company or learn how to make a video in a professional way. Both options are completely valid and it really depends on the results you want and the balance of time, budget and resources at your disposal.

Night vision is the ability to see in a dark environment.

How to create Cool Fractal Shapes in Photoshop [Video Tutorial]

A fractal is “a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole,” a property called self-similarity.

Roots of the idea of fractals go back to the 17th century, while mathematically rigorous treatment of fractals can be traced back to functions studied by Karl Weierstrass, Georg Cantor and Felix Hausdorff a century later in studying functions that were continuous but not differentiable; however, the term fractal was coined by Benoît Mandelbrot in 1975 and was derived from the Latin fractus meaning “broken” or “fractured.”

A mathematical fractal is based on an equation that undergoes iteration, a form of feedback based on recursion. There are several examples of fractals, which are defined as portraying exact self-similarity, quasi self-similarity, or statistical self-similarity. While fractals are a mathematical construct, they are found in nature, which has led to their inclusion in artwork. They are useful in medicine, soil mechanics, seismology, and technical analysis.

Adjustment Layers Photoshop Tutorial

A Fill or Adjustment layer can adjust the color, levels, or brightness and contrast of your image.
These changes are added as a separate layer placed in the layer hierarchy directly over the selected
layer. They are portable and editable. You can create layer masks for each one. You can use
Blending modes to change the way they affect other layers, and because they are full layers, you
can turn them into Smart Objects.

The best thing about a Fill or Adjustment layer is that it does not change the pixels of your original
image. This is the best of non-destructive editing. All the options available for Fill or Adjustment
layers can be applied directly to an image file by selecting Image Adjustments. These adjustments
are made directly to the image, however, and are not non-destructive.

Adjustment layers change the lightness or color of your image. All the best image adjustments can
be accomplished by adding an Adjustment layer to your image. When you add an Adjustment
layer to your image, you won’t see a dialog box; you use the Adjustment panel,
to make changes to each Adjustment layer. This is handy, because you can go back to this
panel at any time to make changes to your Adjustment layers.

Adding Adjustment layers goes beyond using a non-destructive layer to improve the look of your
photo. Using layers gives you the option to create masks that allow you to apply adjustments to
selected areas of your image, providing the ability to change the mask as well as the adjustment at
a later time, if needed.

For instance, the Exposure option is meant to correct exposure problems in your image. This is a
handy adjustment to use in conjunction with a mask that can cover correctly exposed portions of
your photo as you adjust areas that are too light or too dark.

“Tilt-shift photography” refers to the use of camera movements on small- and medium-format cameras, and sometimes specifically refers to the use of tilt for selective focus, often for simulating a miniature scene. Sometimes the term is used when the shallow depth of field is simulated with digital postprocessing; the name may derive from the tilt-shift lens normally required when the effect is produced optically.

“Tilt-shift” actually encompasses two different types of movements: rotation of the lens plane relative to the image plane, called tilt, and movement of the lens parallel to the image plane, called shift. Tilt is used to control the orientation of the plane of focus (PoF), and hence the part of an image that appears sharp; it makes use of the Scheimpflug principle. Shift is used to adjust the position of the subject in the image area without moving the camera back; this is often helpful in avoiding the convergence of parallel lines, as when photographing tall buildings.
Miniature faking is a process in which a photograph of a life-size location or object is made to look like a photograph of a miniature scale model. Blurring parts of the photo simulates the shallow depth of field normally encountered in close-up photography, making the scene seem much smaller than it actually is; the blurring can be done either optically when the photograph is taken, or by digital postprocessing. Many faked-miniature photographs are taken from a high angle to simulate the effect of looking down on a miniature.

Techniques

A common technique for making an image of a full-size scene resemble an image of a miniature model is to have the image progressively blurred from the center to the top or bottom, simulating the blurring due to the limited DoF of a typical image of a miniature. The blurring can be accomplished either optically or with digital postprocessing.
[edit] Optical

Miniatures can be simulated optically by using lens tilt, although the effect is somewhat different from the shallow DoF that normally results in close-up photography.[5]

In a normal photograph, i.e., one not using tilt,

* The DoF extends between two parallel planes on either side of the plane of focus; the DoF is finite in depth but infinite in height and width.
* The sharpness gradients on each side of the DoF are along the line of sight.
* Objects at the same distance from the camera are rendered equally sharp.
* Objects at significantly different distances from the camera are rendered with unequal sharpness.

CELL PHONE PHOTOGRAPHY

BY: SUFYAN BIN UZAYR

Suppose you’re walking down the alley and you see that weird signboard which kindles your thirst to shoot. But then you realize that your mighty SLR isn’t with you (be practical, who carries that heavy piece 24×7).

Well, this is exactly where your cell phone comes in handy. Nowadays, the pocket sized all-so powerful mobile phone cameras have driven the point-and-shoot ones to near extinction (well, almost). We take a closer look on some tips that can help you get the best out of your cell phone camera.

CHOOSING THE SUBJECT

Many present day phones offer megapixel counts above 5, but that doesn’t mean they are apt for every shooting scenario. For instance, if you are employing your phone to shoot a rock concert, more often than not you’d merely get dark blurry images. The fact is, camera phones are ideal for shooting still objects in well-lit scenarios, preferably in broad daylight. Even if your phone offers Xenon or LED flash, night photography shouldn’t be its cup of tea.

So what is the remedy? Well, look into your camera’s settings. You will find a number of scene modes (even with the most basic VGA ones) such as ‘night landscape’, ‘portrait’, ‘sports’, ‘fireworks’, etc. These presets automatically choose the ideal shooting options for the given scenario. Experiment with each and you are sure to see your photographs improve drastically. In the newer breed of Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot phones (and in some of the Samsung phones too, though features on Samsung are country-specific most of the time), you will come across an option called Slow Sync Flash. Don’t hesitate to use it. Basically, Slow Sync tells the camera to shoot with a slightly longer exposure time thereby giving the Flash an enhanced duration of exposure. Bluntly put, it helps to lessen the dark.

KEEP IT STEADY

If you are getting blurry images with your phone, don’t fret because you are not alone. Most of the phones’ cameras have slow shutter speeds with no feature to vary the exposure settings. The best thing one can do is to hold the phone as steady as possible, preferably with both hands while shooting. It is not difficult but does require some practice.

KNOW THE ‘CLICK’

Another key to getting sharp photos is to know the camera’s shutter release. In simple terms, how long does it take for the camera to accomplish the task after you press the shoot button? If there is a lag, you will need to account for that. And if the shutter release is on a touch screen (such as on the Apple iPhone), the shutter probably gets tripped after you lift your finger, not when you press down. Either way, you will need to hold the camera steady while the picture is actually being exposed. This does not mean that you need to get a tripod for your phone. Just keep your hands still (or at least as still as possible).

OPTIMIZING THE CAMERA SETTINGS

Most camera phones today provide a few settings that you can use to optimize your exposures. All the standard rules and terms from digital cameras are applicable. If there is an ISO setting, take it off Auto. When you are outdoors in daylight, you should set the ISO to its lowest value to minimize the digital noise in your picture (which can be pretty grainy with a camera phone). In lower light settings, bump the ISO up as high as it will go (which normally should be at least 400 in a decent phone).

For instance, look at the two images. Both are of the same landscape taken at around 5:30 PM using a Sony Ericsson C510. Image 1 uses 200 as ISO value while Image 2 uses 400.

Likewise, the phone may provide you some control over the JPEG image quality. Always go for the lowest compression/best quality option available. After all, camera phone pictures are already compact enough to begin with – do not compound the problem with needless photo-damaging compression.

If you are the owner of handsets with good optical zoom ratings (such as Sony Ericsson C903, Samsung Pixon or the newly released Nokia N8), use the zoom to the fullest. You will find zooming in at 3x or 4x on the object a better option as compared to yourself moving forward. However, be warned: this is fruitful with OPTICAL zoom only. If your phone is one of the 20x DIGITAL zoom types, bother not. Digital zoom won’t be helpful much and is at best used sparingly.

GET THE RIGHT TOOLS

Your photo editing software – whether it is Adobe Photoshop Elements, Corel Photo-Paint or even something like Google’s free Picasaweb – can help improve most of your camera phone photos. If you have an Android device or an iPhone, you are in good hands as there are numerous applications and softwares available that put most of the image editors to shame. For iPhone users, the plethora of options from the Apple stable includes Free Photo Filters, SP Photo Fix Lite, Photobox and iRetouch Lite. If you are an Android user, well, the galaxy is filled with apps for you. Check out Picsay and FxCamera. Both of them, along with many other apps, are freely available from www.androlib.com

FINAL WORD

When cameras where first incorporated into mobile phones, they were something of a gimmick, providing very low resolution and poor quality images. Today, cameras are an indispensable part of the phone and the features just keep going higher. Even though your phone will stand nowhere in comparison to a mainstream camera, with some effort and implementation of the above said tips, you are sure to get great results. Happy shooting!
