Introduction to Typography

Typography is very important to the design process and when done well can enhance a design for readability and creativity. It gives the designer a chance to express his creativity subtlety so that the text reads seamlessly.-

Typography involves selecting the correct typeface then organizing the point size, line length, leading, tracking and kerning.

Jonathan Hoefler on Helvetica:  And it’s hard to evaluate it. It’s like being asked what you think about off-white paint. It’s just… it’s just there. And it’s hard to get your head around, it’s that big.

The art of typography is a broad  subject so braod they made a film about a type face which you’ve probably heard of  Helvetica: which you can watch at the end of this post .

‘The distinction between font and typeface is that a font designates a specific member of a type family such as roman, boldface, or italic type, while typeface designates a consistent visual appearance or style which can be a “family” or related set of fonts. For example, a given typeface such as Arial may include roman, bold, and italic fonts.’
